Last Minute Camp Notes

Parents and Scouts,

A couple of last minute notes for Camp …

A reminder that any medications must be handed over to the Scoutmaster when you check your son in for camp.  Medications should be in a 1-quart Ziploc bag with the Scout’s name printed clearly on the bag.  Place the medication along with dosage instructions in the bag.  Medication should be in the original container so that the medication is clearly identifiable.

This rule applies to both prescription and over-the-counter medications such as allergy tablets or pain relievers.  With the exception of emergency medications such as asthma inhalers or Epipens, Scouts are not allowed to self-medicate.  If your son is carrying emergency meds, please notify the Scoutmaster and provide dosing instructions upon arrival.

Please plan on arriving at the Sandy Beach parking lot between 1:30 and 2:00.  Checkin begins officially at 3:30 and Troops are told to expect not to be allowed into the sites until 5:30.  As we’ve found in years past, it is a lot easier to get there early than to arrive with the rest of the masses between 3:00 and 5:00.

We will meet on the Sandy Beach field and have soda and snacks available until we can move gear up to camp.  As this is the first week, we can probably expect to be allowed up to the site early.  Parents who may need to leave before we get into the site can shift their son’s gear to one of the leader’s vehicles for the move to the campsite.

Bring plenty of Scout Spirit along with bug spray and sunscreen!!

We’ll see you at camp!

Need Gear and MB Signups

Hi Guys,

All of the gear that was taken on the deep sea fishing trip must be brought back clean to this week’s meeting.

Also, please go to http://www.yawgoog.com/scouting/scouts/Scout%20Files/2010%20Merit%20Badge%20Schedule.pdf and select which merit badges you would like to take so that you can sign up at the meeting.

Thanks, Chris

Camp Info Night

Although we had not originally planned to hold a special meeting for summer camp this year, with the changes in the med forms and the short time we have until camp we felt it would be prudent to give parents an opportunity to update their information and ask any questions before we set off for camp.

We will have an informal summer camp meeting this coming Wednesday (7/23) at St. Marks during the usual meeting time to answer any last minute questions, collect forms and make sure your Scout is ready for camp.

Urgent! Med Form Changes

Parents and Scouts,

It has come to our attention that there has been an update to the BSA med forms and the new form is required for summer camp.

Before you panic, Part A (General Information) and Part B (Physical Exam) remain the same.  The change is only in Part C (Consent Form).

BSA (and Camp Yawgoog) now require the Parental Consent to include names of adults who are authorized to take your Scout to and from the event – and perhaps just as important, the names of adults who are not authorized to transport your son.

Please download the updated med form from our website (http://scouttroop591.org/wp/resources/forms/) and fill out Part C.  Even if you are planning on driving your son to and from camp, it might be prudent to authorize another adult in the Troop to transport your son in case you are unable, for any reason, to make the pick-up.

You may drop off the form this Wednesday at St. Mark’s (see next post) or bring it with you to camp.  We’ll have some extra forms with us at camp, but you must make sure that we have your signed consent on the new form before we can accept your boy into camp.

Sorry about the confusion!

Troop Tees Have Arrived!

The Troop tee-shirts have arrived and will be available at the Court of Honor this Wednesday.

Prices for the tee-shirts will be $12.00 for the cotton tees and $18.00 for the wicking tees.  For those who ordered, your shirts along with an invoice will be available to pick up this Wednesday.  Please make your checks payable to Troop 591.

For those who didn’t order, we did order a limited number of extra shirts in different sizes. These are available for purchase on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last.

One note about the wicking tees:  Due to restrictions on the use of the BSA 100-Year logo, we were forced to change the shirt and ink colors on the wicking tees.  Originally we had planned on a black shirt with white lettering.  The new colors for the wicking tees are a tan shirt with black lettering.

Reminder: Camp Med Forms Due

For those attending summer camp this year, we need your med forms this week!!

This is the standard BSA Med Form and can be found on our website in the Resources section or through this link.

For those attending Jamboree, you may use a copy of the Jamboree med form for summer camp.

If you attended camp last year and have a copy of last year’s med form, this form is still valid for the 2010 camp year.  Med forms are valid for 2 years (1 year for adults over 40).  As we attended camp last year in August, your last year’s form may still be good this year (depending on when it was signed).

If you have any questions, please see me at tomorrow’s meeting.

Deep Sea Fishing Permission Form Posted

The permission slip for June’s Deep Sea Fishing Trip has been posted to the Troop website.

You will need to log in and access the “Outings” page to retrieve the forms.

The permission form has changed slightly to align with the latest language from the BSA.  We are asking that a separate permission form be submitted for each participant – adult or Scout – attending the trip.

Permission slips are due at tomorrow’s meeting.  As I was late getting this announcement out, I will also have extra copies of the permission forms at the meeting for those who haven’t had time to print them out.

Spring Court of Honor: June 16

A reminder to parents and Scouts that the Spring Court of Honor will be held on Wednesday, June 16 at 7:00 pm.

In addition to recognizing the Scouts for their achievements, The Spring Court of Honor is also a time to look back at the the past year and remember the fun we had, the adventures we went on, and the skills we learned.  It is also, sadly, the last regular meeting of the year.

We invite parents, siblings and friends to share the evening with us and celebrate the 2010 Scout year and to begin looking forward next year when we’ll have another exciting slate of events planned for Troop 591.
